Tupelo Regional looking for private company to run FBO

The Tupelo Regional Airport in Mississippi recently announced it is looking for a private company to run the operations of its fixed base operator Tupelo Aviation Unlimited. The private company would be responsible for staffing of TAU, while the airport would retain the assets of its FBO.
DJournal reported the Tupelo Airport Authority is accepting offers from private firms interested in managing the TAU, and the authority will establish a selection committee to make sure the best possible candidate is selected for the job. The goal of the move is to remove the Tupelo Airport Authority from FBO operations completely in the next five years. The tasks the FBO typically takes care of includes aircraft rental, fueling and parking. Other features such as pilot insurance will be left up to other entities.
The airport would like a private company to take over the FBO because it is currently controlled by the airport and subject to government restrictions. Tupelo news source WTVA reported if the FBO was privately controlled, it would have the flexibility to react faster to certain circumstances without waiting for governmental approval.
"One of the downsides of being a government entity is that we have to go through all the process, staffing and procurement that most government organizations do," Josh Abramson, executive director of the airport, told the source.
