Wisconsin college to offer aviation program

Aspiring pilots who want to earn a degree in aviation have another school to chose from. Lakeland College in Wisconsin has become the only four-year school in the state to offer such a program.
The program is being offered in conjunction with Frontline Aviation school and Green Bay's Austin Straubel International Airport.
School faculty point out that an aviation minor is more than just flying. Students will have to learn about physics and business operations as well.
Jet Air Group, which is owned by Frontline, president Bruce Bressler, says there will be a need for pilots in the future.
"The pilot population is aging and heading towards retirement, and the economy has resulted in less people learning to fly," says Bressler. "The industry faces a fairly substantial deficit of pilots to work for commercial airlines and other flying careers in the future. This program is for students who are considering aviation as a career or simply as a personal endeavor."
Earlier this year, The University of Illinois and St. Cloud State University both announced proposed plans to close their respective aviation programs. The schools cited financial constraints for their decisions.
