Air Transat pilots reach an agreement

The mood for Air Transat pilots should be a bit better now. After eight months of negotiations, Air Transat management and the Air Line Pilots Association International - the group who represents the airline's pilots - have signed a tentative agreement.
Air Transat unit of ALPA chairman captain Sylvain Aubin says he is pleased a tentative contract is on the table.
"As partners in the success of these companies, we are pleased that Transat A.T. management chose to work with our pilots and other employees to encourage the growth of the company from within - as they've done in the past with notable success," said Aubin.
Details regarding the new contract will not be released until the pilots officially approve the deal. A final agreement isn't anticipated until early October of this year.
Air Transat isn't the only airline that has recently found itself amidst negotiations with pilots. United Airlines and Continental Airlines pilots have been fighting with management to put an end to outsourcing. A United Airlines representative referred to the practice as placing "dollars ahead of safety."
