AOPA partners with LifeLock to offer members identity theft protection

January 21, 2011, 05:20 pm

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has announced a partnership with the identity theft protection company LifeLock.

As a service to its members, the group will align with LifeLock to provide a discounted rate for the identity protections services the company offers. This opportunity will provide members of the group a chance to protect themselves against identity theft, which affects approximately 11 million Americans per year according to a recent Javelin Strategy and Research report.

This service will also be specialized for pilots, making them the only identity theft protection program that has been specially tailored to deal with problems affecting those who fly planes. According to Michelle Peterson, AOPA's vice president of marketing, "AOPA has worked closely with LifeLock to ensure their services meet the specific and unique needs of a pilot, by creating special protocols to assist pilots in the event of lost or stolen airman documentation."

It is important for pilots to take measures to protect themselves inside and outside of their planes. As vulnerable as they may be to identity theft, they are equally as vulnerable to hazards while in flight, and should consider life insurance for pilots. Pilot insurance can help provide for their families in the event that they are in a fatal accident.
