Some people have been mesmerized by airplanes and the aviation industry in general since they were small children, but a variety of factors have forced them to stray away from pursing it as a career.
In many cases, people cite costs as a motivating factor for steering clear of the industry. Expenses doesn't have to be an issue anymore for those interested in becoming an aviation mechanic.
The Oakland Tribune reports that the Aviation Institution of Maitenance will be granting its first 25 graduates tuition free of charge. It normally costs $36,000 to complete the program.
Oakland campus executive director Joshua Smith says the school is offering a rare chance to aspiring mechanics.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to become an airplane mechanic," says Smith.
There are money-saving opportunities for those who are interested in taking to the sky. Many schools throughout the country offer scholarships to aspiring pilots. North Shore Community College in Massachusetts, for example, has a scholarship for students in honor of a former flight instructor.
It's vital students learn the proper techniques to fly and maintain aircraft in addition to carrying pilot insurance for safety.
