Aviation events to cap off summer

September 24, 2012, 04:33 pm

The aviation community is closing out the flying season with upcoming events all across the map.

Craig Fuller, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association president, and Doug Murphy, Federal Aviation Administration Southern Region regional administrator, are headlining the Southeast Aviation Expo on September 29 at Greenville Downtown Airport in South Carolina. The event last for two days.

James Stephens, program manager for the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission, said with all the changes going on in the aviation industry it will be good to hear the perspectives of the FAA and the most well known aviation user support group in the world.

Fuller will speak to attendees at 1:15 and Murphy will immediately follow with an industry update.

“The future handling of air traffic, with the introduction of Nextgen, is of interest to our local pilots and airport staff,” stated Joe Frasher, airport director of the Greenville Downtown Airport. “The proposed addition of airport user fees is unpopular among aviation groups and everyone is concerned about fuel prices, the economy, funding of airports and the overall plight of general aviation. I think many want to hear from Mr. Fuller and Mr. Murphy what they can expect the future to bring.”

Besides the aviation powerhouses attending, the event will also feature the latest aviation products, 14 static aircraft on display and education sessions, which will include career and training opportunities within the industry.

“(The Expo is) like an industry trade show for people who work or have an interest in aviation, but all are welcome,” Frasher added. “The aviation community in the Southeast is very strong and we expect a great turnout. We would like to encourage people to register to attend online.

Frasher added that the online registration will help event planners get an idea how many people plan to attend the event, helping the admittance process go faster.

Craig Fuller will also be attending the Second Annual Migration Flight-Training Conference on October 22-24 at Redbird Skyport in San Marcos, Texas, along with Pete Bunce, CEO of General Aviation Manufacturers Association; and Jack Pelton, retired Cessna CEO.

The event will focus on shaping the aviation future for flight training, and attendees will all share their techniques and technologies on flight training.

One more aviation event is scheduled for September 28-30 at Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport in Florida. Sun 'n Fun is presenting the Fly Into Fall Weekend with a pancake breakfast, flight demos, a dinner at the Sunset Grill and an Around the World Flight presentation by Carol Ann Garratt, the world record holder.

Before attending any of these events, pilots are encourage to look into pilot life insurance as a way to prepare for rough weather ahead even in blue skies.
