A pilot's safety and the well-being of their passengers should be at the top of everyone's list of concerns. The Allied Pilots Association is showing their support for an announcement from the European Commission.
Recently, the EC said it is setting out to prevent future accidents from taking place. The Commission wants to identify key factors that contribute to accidents happening so that it can devise a plan to prevent them from happening again.
The EC said it is not trying to file any criminal charges. The APA says investigations launched in some countries have resulted in people being charged for crimes.
"Criminalization is bound to have a chilling effect on accident investigators' ability to do their jobs properly," says APA president captain David Bates. "The threat of criminal prosecution is not conducive to effective accident investigation, which depends on the full and willing disclosure of relevant information by all interested parties."
There are a variety of reasons why an accident may take place. Sometimes accidents are the result of someone not following proper safety protocol. Other times an accident take places because of mechanical malfunction.
