Flight training program geared toward female pilots

Women who want to fly should consider buying pilot insurance before they sign up for a new program designed specifically for female pilots-in-training. The Girls In Flight Training (GIFT) program was designed by Mary Latimer, who was inspired after a visit to the Women Airforce Service Pilots museum in Texas, according to AOPA Magazine.
The GIFT website states that Latimer has been a flight instructor since 1974, as well as spending 24 years as an air traffic controller. When Latimer obtained her certification in airframe and power plant mechanics, she was the only female among 125 students.
Her husband and daughter, who are also flight instructors, will help Latimer run the academy.
The academy will only charge students for the cost of fuel and airplane rentals, for those who don't have their own planes. Free lodging will be available for a handful of students on a first come-first served basis. Free campgrounds are also available.
"There's also a need to ensure women pilots progress through their first certificate and onto commercial and instrument ratings," Latimer told the news source. The aviation world lacks a larger amount of female pilots, even though plenty of women are interested in aviation.
