Fuel prices increase operation costs for private pilots

Some Arizona private pilots are up in arms over increased fuel prices, reports the Yuma Sun.
In June, Million Air became Yuma International Airport's sole fuel provider, reports the Yuma Sun. Since then, private pilots have complained saying that Million Air has jacked up prices while providing less service than the previous fuel company, CareFlight.
Yuma Sun reports that airport records show an increase of four cents a gallon when Million Air took over.
Million Air franchise owner Chris Freeman has offered to sell fuel at cost in order to help mend relations with the pilots.
"We'll put it at our cost and not a penny more," Freeman told Yuma Sun.
After an airport authority board meeting, it appeared that most were in favor of having competition for fuel service, says Yuma Sun.
The costs associated with owning and flying an aircraft can be high. While there isn't a fixed cost of ownership, expenses can be affected by the amount of hours a plane isflown and how fuel efficient it is. People who are considering purchasing an aircraft should also take into account costs for replacing parts and general maintenance.
