The aviation world is opening its doors to the general public on May 21 for International Learn to Fly Day, according to General Aviation News. More than 200 events will be held across the U.S., Canada, Ireland, Iceland and Brazil. The day is geared towards helping people discover the fun and freedom of flight.
"As we grow the next generation of aviators, International Learn to Fly Day is one day where we can make a special effort to invite and welcome those who have always dreamed of flying,” Rod Hightower, president and CEO of EAA Aviation Center, told the news outlet.
The second annual event will involve free introductory flights, as well as encouragement for adults interested in the aviation industry, according to AVweb. During the inaugural celebration last year, more than 40,000 people turned out to events across the globe. The U.S. House of Representatives has even declared the third Saturday in May as International Learn to Fly Day.
While people will have the opportunity to fly in various aircrafts, those who look forward to flying more frequently should consider purchasing pilot insurance.
