According to the San Antonio Express-News, Air Force Major Ryan Corrigan will return to his native Texas this weekend to participate in the 2011 Randolph Air Show, at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. A former F-16 fighter pilot with the U.S. Air Force, Corrigan is excited to still be flying, now as a demonstration pilot.
"I still feel 18 when I fly," Corrigan told the news source. "Imagine driving the most impressive sports car you can imagine and multiply it by 10."
A member of a long line of USAF fighter pilots, Corrigan will be piloting an F-16 Viper on Saturday. The craft is extremely agile, and capable of breaking the sound barrier.
With the recent accidents at air races and shows in mind, Corrigan noted that safety and efficiency is a top concern of organizers and pilots alike. He told the news source that military precision extended to all performed maneuvers, and unless a pilot hits certain air-speed and timing marks consistently, a maneuver will not be executed for the public.
For many aviators, whether they fly for airlines, independently or in the military, flying a plane extends to a number of facets of their lives. Many recreational pilots who fly independently choose to take out a pilot insurance plan through an aviation organization. These plans often offer coverage for pilots that typical insurance policies cannot provide.
