NASA test pilots honored

NASA recently announced that two of its most accomplished pilots, Kenneth Yenni and Lee Person, will be inducted into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame for their contributions to flight safety and aerospace technology.
Yenni and Person often worked together over the course of their respective careers, which lasted from the early 1960s until 1995, when both men retired. Yenni, a test pilot, worked on a number of experimental projects that advanced cockpit displays in general aviation aircraft and safety technology in commercial airliners. Person, who worked primarily in military aviation, helped develop in-flight thrust vectoring for jet air combat.
Yenni and Person worked together on a number of endeavors, in particular on a wind-shear project that made flying in bad weather safer for military pilots. The two aviators also contributed to space exploration. Yenni performed research on the physical effects of weightlessness, and Person worked on the Gemini Lunar Excursion Module.
Many professional and military pilots continue to fly recreationally after they retire from commercial flight or military service.
