Solo flights build pilot confidence

Though flying solo for the first time can be a frightening experience, according to Flying Magazine, it also can build the confidence required to be a long-term successful pilot.
Though more senior pilots can serve as a wealth of knowledge for those just starting out, according to the magazine's Flying Blogs, flying with other pilots may not always help aviators build the confidence they need to gain more advanced skills in aviation.
"Even as an instructor with a few hundred hours, if I flew with another pilot I found myself asking him or her questions I already knew the answers to, as if I had no clue what I was doing," the author says. "Having someone else in the cockpit somehow would make me second-guess my actions or procedures."
However, the author also advises that the process of building confidence should be done slowly and pilots should push themselves out of their comfort zones a little further on each flight - not all at once.
Confidence and keen decision making are sometimes essential to the fast-acting procedures needed to avoid potentially fatal accidents. Sometimes, these incidents are unavoidable, and the chance of a fatality is something pilots should plan for with end-of-life instructions and life insurance for pilots prepared, should a tragedy happen.
