Cessna begins M2 production

January 15, 2013, 05:08 pm

Cessna recently told General Aviation News that it has began production on its Citation M2 at a facility in Independence, Kansas. Company officials expect that the new aircraft will be available for certification in the second quarter of 2013.

"It's great to see production begin, and see a product take shape," said Lily English, general manager of Cessna's Independence plant. "The team members are ready, and they're thrilled to be a part of bringing the M2 to customers."

The M2 comes with features that are usually seen in larger jets, like the Garmin G3000 avionics suite, which helps pilots get from departure to arrival safe and sound. In addition, the plane has enough room for six passengers, as well as a private lavatory. The M2 is also faster than other planes.

Cessna also recently announced that its Grand Caravan EX has been given a Federal Aviation Administration Type Certification, as the plane is currently available. According to Cessna, the Grand Caravan EX has a 38 percent faster climbing rate compared to the old Grand Caravan model, and a 20 percent better rate than company officials initially anticipated.

Those with their own planes are reminded to never fly without pilot life insurance.
