Jeppesen links mobile devices with cockpit

Jeppesen recently announced that it is offering route planning capabilities that can be transferred between mobile devices and installed avionics to help streamline pilot efficiency and safety while in the air.
With the Aspen Avionics Connected Panel communications network, the Jeppesen route planning created on the Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck can be transferred to Aspen Avionics MFD 500 or 1000 units.
Connectivity between technologies allows pilots to maintain their position in the air with GPS on their iPad coordinated with their cockpit, showing airport diagrams and en-route charts.
“We introduce Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck route planning functionality as an enabled app for the Aspen Avionics Connected Panel gateway to help enhance the connection between data and devices during all phases of the flight process,” said Scott Reagan, director at Jeppesen OEM Client Management. “Jeppesen route planning data available through the Connected Panel network will help pilots access the right information at the right time through their preferred delivery platform.”
In addition, the Mobile FliteDeck allows pilots access to a library of terminal charts, airport diagrams and Jeppesen Airway Manual text information.
Jeppesen offers full suite of e-books
Last year Jeppesen made certain eBooks available for the Apple iBookstore.
The eBooks include the Private Pilot Guided Flight Discovery manual, the A&P Technician General Airframe and Powerplant textbooks and other reference books. In a later announcement the company added its entire suite of pilot training textbooks as e-books.
“Having the complete collection of Jeppesen pilot training textbook and reference titles available on iPad as e-books eliminates cumbersome paper-based materials and enhances the learning experience through a more dynamic presentation of information,” said Julie Filucci, senior manager at Jeppesen Aviation Training Solutions.
The e-books are another attempt by Jeppesen to help pilots become more efficient in the information technology age. The e-readers provide users tools that would otherwise not be available, such as on-screen search, highlighting, hyper-linking, bookmarking, note taking and font size adjustment features.
The eBooks will not only help current pilots but also students train and complete their ground study procedures.
Jeppesen plans to release more eBook versions in the future which will offer embedded video, audio, animation and social media connection components.
