Proper airplane maintenance is needed for safety

Safety should be at the top of every pilot's checklist before getting into the cockpit. General aviation pilots can't be safe if they can't properly see out their windows. It's important to use proper materials to maintain a windshield. LP Aero Plastics notes that most airplanes are made with acrylic plastic. They say it's important to refrain from using standard glass cleaners which typically contain ammonia, which isn't safe to use on acrylics. A hydrophobic coating in an airplanes windshield may be able to help repel rain. PPG Aerospace has created an application kit that can help pilots tend to their windshields when they don't have access to a trained professional. PPG Aerospace global director for general aviation transparencies Arthur Scott says applying the product to an airplane windshield is simple. "We developed the fast coating process to meet the quick turnaround time needs of airlines, and are making it available for general aviation," says Scott. "We want to support general aviation operators flying aircraft with windows having this proprietary coating by providing a convenient solution when they don't have the opportunity for a standard application."
It's important for pilots to also consult a trained professional to ensure their airplane is properly maintained and up to safety standards.
