South Dakota airport to widen fuel choices

From location to amenities, there are a variety of reasons why a pilot may choose to utilize a certain airport and facilities. The Sioux Falls Regional Airport hopes to bring in more business by adding another fueling option, reports the South Dakota Argus Leader.
Adding an additional option for fuel will be a great benefit, airport executive director Dan Letellier told the paper. Generally speaking, competition lowers prices and increases quality of service.
"It provides more options, convenience for general aviation traffic that maybe is utilizing some neighboring airports and now may find it more convenient to come into Sioux Falls," says Letellier.
However, not everyone thinks the costly renovation needed for the project is a good idea. The paper reports Landmark Aviation general manager Jack Browning said there may not be enough business to make the undertaking profitable.
Data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics says that among U.S. airlines, the number of flights to date have decreased 1.8 percent from last year. However, the number of passengers increased 0.4 percent In July of this year from the same month in 2009.
