The runway is a bit safer for pilots and their passengers at Georgetown-Scott County Regional Airport in Kentucky. The airport recently received maintenance upgrades thanks to government funding.
With $3 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Ac,t the airport's 5,500 foot-long runway received an upgrade for the first time in almost 17 years. The runway was repaved and widened to provde more space for larger aircraft.
Federal Aviation administrator Randy Babbitt says the funds are helping to keep people safe.
"General aviation is incredibly important to local communities nationwide and the Recovery Act is funding necessary safety improvements and upgrades that otherwise might not get done."
Kentucky isn't the only state that has benefited from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds. Earlier this month, the FAA announced five more airports, including ones in Michigan, Texas, and Arizona would receiving funding for rehabilitation projects.
Equipment that is not properly maintained can result in hazardous conditions. The investment in keeping aircraft facilities up-to-date will help ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.
