All steps crucial to safe flying

Pilots can help protect themselves from injury by paying attention to their surroundings and by practicing. Even the most experienced pilots can get caught in an easy flight and forget to follow through on all necessary procedures.
One pilot forgot one important step before landing his airplane not long ago - he forgot to put down his plane's wheels while landing, reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
"The plane stayed nice and upright, didn't swerve or spin, and came to a stop," pilot Fred Lundahl told the paper. "The passengers were a bit surprised at the short distance to the ground, when it had been a longer distance when they got in the plane."
No one was injured during the landing of the small Cessna Comanche single-engine airplane at Langley airpark, the paper reports. The plane only suffered damage to the propeller and some scrapping on the bottom.
Pilots can ensure a safe take-off, flight, and landing by always staying alert and following allprocedures. If conditions aren't good for a safe landing at a particular airport, pilots should try to land elsewhere even if it's less convenient.
