Safety alert issued by FAA

Aircraft owners should pay attention to a safety warning being issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. Pilots who had work done on their aircraft between April 1998 and July 2009 by U.S. Aircraft Instruments may want to have their plane looked at again. The FAA has recently taken away the company's repair station certificate for "failure to properly calibrate instruments used in aircraft certification; work done outside the scope of the repair station ratings; failure to use current technical data; falsification of calibration records." An inspection will be necessary to determine if any work done by the New Jersey-based company will negatively effect an aircraft they serviced. "Owners/operators that had work completed by U.S. Aircraft Instruments should conduct a records inspection immediately to determine both the scope and date of the work performed," the FAA said in a statement. Inspections can be particularly important as an aircraft ages, remindsthe FAA. An aircraft's needs change with the amount of time it's been operated and stored. Keeping aircraft properly maintained is important for ensuring a safe flight.
