Making flying safer for pilots and passengers has been a topic of discussion among industry professionals. The Future of Aviation Advisory Committee recently presented the Department of Transportation with a list of key ways to make the skies less hazardous.
The National Business Travel Association is standing behind the recommendations set forth by the FAAC. Some of the suggestions include ensuring transparency in pricing and addressing economic stress imposed by fuel prices.
NBTA executive director and COO Mike McCormick says the changes will have economic and safety benefits.
"These include a necessary charge to help companies and travel professionals gain transparency in ancillary fees, and a fast-tracked overhaul of the national airspace system, reducing the amount of flight delays and increasing safety," says McCormick.
Millions of passengers each year could be affected by the implementation of such rules. Data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows there were more than 809 million airline passengers in 2008 and 767 million in 2009. While there has been a decline in passengers, more people are likely to start flying again as economic conditions improve.
