Safety lapses can occur before take off

Flying safety concerns shouldn't be on a person's mind only when at a large airport. The Worcester Telegram and Gazette notes many "close call" incidents take place at smaller facilities as well.
The newspaper notes that many accidents or near accidents don't even require an aircraft to leave the ground. According to the paper, an incident last year at Southbridge Municipal Airport occurred on the runway when a pilot had to hit his brakes to avoid a group of deer.
The Worcester and Gardner, Massachusetts airports each had "16 safety lapses" in the past 10 years. Gardner municipal airport manager Kevin McCole told the paper that the facility doesn't have an air traffic tower, a crucial safety component found at larger properties.
Whether a safety incident is an aircraft operators fault or caused on other forces, life insurance for pilots is a sound investment. Poor weather conditions, for example, can arise and make flying or landing an aircraft a challenge for even the most experienced professional.
