Safety measures at the airport don't just involve aircraft. It's important for surrounding facilities to be up to par as well.
The Federal Aviation Administration has helped fund a fire station at Los Angeles International Airport. The new structure is twice the size of the old building, which dates back to the 1980s. The larger property will be better able to serve the needs of the bustling aviation hub.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says people will benefit from the enhanced facilities.
"This project is an example of how the Recovery Act has not only stimulated the economy but also funded a critical safety improvement at one of the world's busiest airports," says LaHood. "The new fire station will help ensure the safety of all passengers at LAX for years to come."
People can increase their safety in several ways. From purchasing pilot insurance to closely adhering to procedures, such steps can help keep people from meeting danger.
Additionally, pilots will also want to make sure they are closely following weather forecasts. Poor weather conditions can turn a pleasurable flight into a disaster.
