Airline seat capacity ticks upward

Scheduled air flight and seat capacity levels appear to have gone unchanged for the most part recently. However, for the first time in three years, airline seat capacity has increased in North America, according to Official Airline Guide.
There are nearly 80 million more seats available now in comparison to August of last year, says OAG. There was a slight, 1 percent increase in the number of scheduled flights as well.
OAG says that North America is now home to the world's third-largest aviation market. Other regions have reported significantly larger gains.
"North America, the most mature aviation market and until recently the largest, trails all other regions in seat capacity growth. This region is now the third-largest aviation market in the world, with combined domestic and international capacity of 99 million seats, falling behind Asia Pacific with 109.6 million seats, and Europe with 105.5 million," said UBM Aviation CEO Peter von Moltke.
Despite the leveling-off of growth in North America, worldwide seat capacity and flight frequency is expected to grow approximately six percent, says OAG. That would result in 2.7 million flights.
