Aviation center set to commence training

A new aviation center in Sedgwick County, Kansas is preparing to commence its first class shortly, reports the Wichita Eagle.
The goal of the center, part of Wichita Area Technical College, is to help prepare aviators of the future through education, research and training, says the paper.
Associate vice president for academic affairs at Wichita Area Technical College Sarah Leftwich hinted that the facility may help attract, and train, people to work in the area's aviation companies, the paper said.
Executive director of Wichita State University's National Institute for Aviation Research John Tomblin told the paper that the facilities are so robust that it would be hard for others to compare.
"We have everything here in one location, and we're locating it in one of the largest aviation clusters in the United States," Tomblin told the paper. "That's an extreme home-field playing advantage here. I'm hoping the whole aviation industry in the United States comeshere to train."
Job growth is expected to be steady for the aviation industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that job growth between 2008 and 2010 will increase 12 percent for pilots and flight engineers.
