Aviation industry getting back on track
December 23, 2010, 05:42 pm
The aviation industry is ending 2010 on the right foot, and may be ushering in a turn around for 2011, suggests John Infanger in a blog post for Airport Business Magazine.
Franger notes that Honda Aircraft Company flew its first FAA compliant Honda jet and Hawker Beechcraft Corporation has inked a deal with state officials to stay in Kansas. Additionally, the state is paying $10 million over three years in tuition for those needing training.
Franger also notes that last week a tax bill was signed into law that is anticipated to greatly help the industry recover. The law includes a provision that will allow manufacturers more time to take advantage of credits.
These are all good signs given how hard the aviation industry has been hit by the recession. Data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics reveals that employment on passenger airlines has decreased 0.4 percent from October of last year.
In fact, BTS data reveals low-cost airlines actually increased the number of full-time employees between October 2009 and October of this year by 3 percent.
