North Carolina governor honors aviation industry

North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue recently made the week of December 3, "Aviation Appreciation Week."
The point of the designation is to help create awareness of the important role aviation plays in a community. In North Carolina, there are more than 70 airports, 7,000 registered aircraft and 14,000 licensed pilots.
In her proclamation, Perdue notes that North Carolina is a better place because of aviation.
"Aviation plays a vital role in the lives of our citizens, businesses and rural counties," says Perdue. "Given the vastness of North Carolina, from our western mountains to our coastal beaches, to all points in between, our communities depend upon aviation for access to medical treatment civil defense, mobility, economic prosperity and natural disaster relief."
Several other governors have made similar proclamations this year. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty made October "General Aviation Month." Pawlenty cited how aviation is vital to the state since much of the population is now located in urban areas.
Alaska, Arkansas, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio and Vermont are a few other stations that have honored the industry this year with a special designation.
