Kent Career Tech Center's avionics program recently became the first program of its kind in the United States to earn formal accreditation allowing students to take an exam to qualify them as certified aircraft electronics technicians.
Announced at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Michigan, the school received the accreditation after four years of success in aviation education. The program sends 89 percent of its high school participants onto college, and 75 percent land jobs in the aviation industry. The program is designed to prepare students for aviation careers through coursework and training on the installation and repair of electronic instruments pilots use during the flight, The Grand Rapids Press reported.
Similarly, aviation programs on the East Coast are also expanding due to growing interest from students. The Atlantic Cape Community College's Board of Trustees recently approved two new aviation programs: the professional pilot option, aviation studies, associate's in science degree and the pre-aerospace engineering associate's in science degree. The new programs will enable Atlantic Cape to offer four aviation programs to interested students in the area.
The trustees approved the programs when the institution's overall performance and coursework was deemed excellent after the president's annual compensation review and performance evaluation. Among the many topics discussed at the school, pilot insurance and other safety regulations are sure to be stressed to keep the skies safe.
