Business is expected to remain strong for Boeing in the upcoming years. The company predicts carriers in the U.S. and Canada will purchase more than 7,000 airplanes within the next 20 years.
Boeing stands to see great profits if their estimates are accurate. The investment could be worth $700 billion.
Vice president of marketing for Boeing Randy Tinseth says most new airplanes will be more fuel-efficient and single-aisle to meet the needs of fast-paced travelers.
"North America is a large, mature market, and we expect passenger traffic for the region to grow at a modest rate of 3.4 percent," said Tinseth. "The fast-paced lifestyles in Canada and the U.S. require rapid, frequent and reliable coast-to-coast and interregional transportation."
The next-generation 737 is one aircraft model that is expected to be quite popular as it has enhanced fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs.
According to the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, approximately 61.5 million passengers flew both domestic and international flights in May of this year. While not nearly as many passengers as seen during the same month of 2008, the number marks almost a 3 percent increase from last year.
