More than 275 vendors and exhibitors that specialize in aviation were present at the 14th annual Alaska State Aviation Trade Show and Conference in April 2011. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association reported that the trade show, which takes place right before Alaska's busiest flying season, welcomed more than 21,000 guests.
According to the Alaskan Airmen's Association, Alaska boasts more pilots and aircraft than any place in the world, which makes the state an ideal location for the Great Alaska Aviation Gathering.
The gathering included demonstrations and displays of every type of aircraft, which included personal, commercial and military planes. Seminars concerning aviation safety were conducted, which may inspire pilots to consider purchasing pilot insurance.
One of the exhibitions was hosted by high school students from Chevak, Alaska, who participated in the Build a Plane program, along with other high schools. The students got the chance to fly their 700 pound aircraft at the trade show.
One of the students, Ben Agimuk told KTUU-TV that participating in the program and trade show "will open a lot of doors for us and give us a career in aviation."
