An 81-year-old woman was recently rescued from her home after a small plane crashed into her property in Midland, Texas. The woman was sitting in her house when the plane collided with her home, injuring the pilot, destroying the home, but leaving her and her two dogs unharmed.
David Hickman, Midland Fire Department spokesman, told The Associated Press that the twin-engine plane crashed into the back of a different house, damaging a storage room and garage, before skidding across an alley and smashing into the elderly woman's home. The woman's house caught fire and was destroyed on impact. Pilot insurance could help protect pilots from costs associated with such crashes.
According to News Talk 790 AM, the plane took off from El Campo and was planning to land in Midland Airpark. The crash demolished the woman's home, knocked out electricity to many of the homes on the block and required nine fire trucks to put out the flames.
The source reported that this crash is the second in the last few days involving local residents. In a similar plane crash coming from Sydney, Australia, two people were killed while traveling over Texas.
