Poberezny pleased with AirVenture attendance

Pilots and airplane enthusiasts didn't come in as large droves as usual to this year's Experimental Aircraft Associations's AirVenture show this year.
Poor weather conditions got the show off to a rough start, but things turned around somewhat during the second week. Overall, attendance declined 7 percent from last year, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. This year, roughly 535,000 fans came to see the self-proclaimed "world's greatest aviation celebration."
Given the larger-than-usual crowd from last year, EAA president Tom Poberezny said that he is not surprised by the drop in attendance in 2010.
"This year's weather challenges early in the week also had an effect. The second half of the week, however, was outstanding, especially with such activities as those on Saturday that included the night airshow," AOPA reports Poberezny as saying. "We were not only very pleased with the attendance figures, but also with the positive response and the upbeat spirit from all those who attended."
Next year's AirVenture is slated for July 25-31. With better weather conditions, the event could see larger crowds.
