An air show held over the weekend at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Fort Smith, Arkansas, saw record attendances, according to the Fort Smith Times Record.
The air show, which featured acrobatic maneuvers and demonstrations from a number of modern military aircraft, included talks from Air Force and Air National Guard pilots, many of whom are combat veterans. A group of F-16 Thunderbirds from Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas headlined the event, performing impressive stunts in front of a crowd of about 125,000 on Saturday and 130,000 on Sunday. Attendance totals over the weekend surpassed the previous record by about 55,000, set in 2008, according to the source.
The event also featured demonstrations from a number of vintage military aircraft, including notoriously agile, authentic World War II era Japansese "Zero" fighter planes.
An extremely successful weekend, the air show provided some stability in a live entertainment market that has seen its share of tragedy in recent weeks. With pilot and spectator safety in the forefront of everyone's mind, the show went off without a hitch. For independent aviators, pilot insurance considerations are often addressed through pilot organizations. Organizations can offer guidance on the best forms of coverage and may provide discounted group rates on pilot insurance policies.
