Vintage airplane pilots gather to celebrate their craft

September 29, 2011, 09:19 pm

According to the Baldwin City Signal, a recent event at the Vinland Valley Aerodrome in Baldwin City, Kansas, celebrated private pilots and their vintage aircraft, in particular, Luscombe planes, single-engine aircraft built in the 1940s.

While aviation is a career for many pilots, some just love to fly and are fortunate enough to be able to pursue aviation as a hobby. Jerry Cobb, a pilot who frequents Vinland Airport, noted at the event that flying for may pilots is a form of relaxation and escape. Cobb, who flew planes in the military in the 1960s but didn't get his civilian pilot's license until 1986, owns a refurbished 1946 Luscombe, and told the news provider it is a major source of his happiness.

"It’s my sole source of entertainment in my old age," he told the source. "I’ve had that airplane almost 15 years and 3,700 hours of flight time on it, so I fly a lot. I’ve done so many things in my life, and I could die tomorrow and not feel cheated."

Many pilots, whether they are employed as professional aviators or simply fly recreationally, consider the benefits of a pilot insurance policy. In the case of airplane owners, especially those who invest in a unique aircraft like a Luscombe, estate planning for pilots can provide guarantees for your craft. In both cases, pilot organizations can provide guidance.
