The aviation industry plays an important role in many people's lives. For many people, travelers, pilots, and others working in the field come to mind as valuing aviation the most. However, without services provided by airplanes, many goods could not be transported around the world.
The Aero Club of Southern California values the diverse contributions necessary to advance the aviation and space technology industries. The club will be awarding FedEx president and CEO Frederick Smith with the Howard Hughes Memorial Award.
"After an extensive review by the award committee, which includes 14 past honorees, we concluded that Fred Smith best represents sustained aviation excellence," said Aero Club president Nissen Davis. "He joins an exclusive roster of aviation and space pioneers like Jack Northrop, Jimmy Doolittle, Simon Ramo, Neil Armstrong, Bob Hoover and Chuck Yeager."
According to FedEX, they have more than 375 airports served along with 664 aircraft that help them bring goods across the country and to more than 220 countries and territories around the globe.
