One of the country's oldest schools specializing in aviation is looking for a new place to call home for its third campus. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University president John Johnson recently visited Houston, Texas to scope out the city.
The school currently has two resident campuses, one in Daytona Beach, Florida and another in Prescott, Arizona. Embry-Riddle also has a network of learning centers throughout the world. There are approximately 23,000 students enrolled at the university.
Houston Mayor Annise Parker says the city boasts facilities that should be of great interest to the school, including three airports and a space center.
"As home to Ellington Airport and NASA, Houston would be the perfect location for Embry-Riddle students," says Parker. "This is a university that would provide education in a specialized field that would bring even more prestige to Houston, which is why we hope to be their final choice."
Embry-Riddle intends to expandcomes after two schools announced plans to fold their aviation programs. Both the University of Illinois and St. Cloud State University cited finances as one of the main forces fueling their plans to stop offering aviation degrees.
