Flight school enrollment becoming more international

The student population at America's flying schools is changing. The New York Times reports more students are coming from abroad for training.
The number of domestic students has been declining, making international enrollment important. The paper reports the involvement with international students doesn't stop with students attending programs in the U.S.
A multi-million dollar deal has been forged between the Florida Institute of Technology and Turkish Airlines, says the Times.
FlightSafety Academy manager Daniel Greenhill told the paper he doesn't believe the trend will last for long, however.
"It's just a pendulum, it goes back and forth," says Greenhill. "In a year or two, we'll see more domestic pilot enrollment."
Greenhill's school is much like any other in the country. He told the Times a decade ago most of his students were domestic, but now the majority are international.
Enrolling in an aviation program may not be a bad idea for those looking to join a growing industry.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an increasing population will help fuel a need for pilots and engineers. The department estimates 12 percent job growth through 2018.
