Dan Kairis had a long-time love of flying, but it wasn't a few years ago he was able to pick it up as a hobby.
The Courier-News reports that life's occurrences got in the way, but now that other commitments are taken care of, Kairis is flying on a regular basis.
Many people cite costs as a reason they cannot pursue flying, but Kairis joined a group that makes it more affordable. The paper reports the Vagabond Flying Association consists of a group of 35 pilots, allowing for cost savings.
"It is similar to buying stock in a company. If a member needs to leave the club, they can sell their share back to someone else," Kairis told the paper. "Members currently pay $73 per month, which pays for general maintenance, hangar rental, insurance and other miscellaneous expenses."
Aspiring pilots should consider enrolling in a flight school program. The educational resources can be very helpful to those picking up the skills for the first time. In addition to being educated by an experienced person, people should should also consider purchasing life insurance for pilots as a safety precaution.
