Three dead in California plane crash

March 29, 2011, 09:21 pm

A private plane that was flying from John Wayne airport crashed about two-and-a-half miles away from Barstow-Dagget Airport in California on March 20, according to the Daily Pilot.

Representatives from the FAA Communications center told the news source that the Cessna 210 was leaving John Wayne Airport and heading to Henderson Executive airport in Las Vegas. The plane became engulfed in flames upon crashing.

According to the source, there was a female pilot and her two children on the aircraft, one boy and one girl. The O.C. register has reported that those on-board were licensed private pilot Kaitie Morrison and her children.

However, original reports state that the FAA representatives said the bodies were burned beyond recognition.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the county sheriff's office are investigating the accident. This accident is the second in the California area in the past week. Another tragic accident recently occurred in Long Beach, leaving five of the six men on board dead.

Though incidents like this are tragic, they reinforce the importance of having life insurance for pilots, to provide for those left behind following a fatal plane crash.
