Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer and many people celebrate the three-day weekend with travel. AAA estimates that 34.4 million travelers will travel at least 50 miles from home over the long weekend, marking a nearly 10 percent increase from last year.
Airports are predicted to be busy for the holiday. Chicago's O'Hare and Midway International Airports predict more than 1.4 million passengers will travel through their terminals over the weekend.
Pilots will be particularly busy on Friday, September 3. The airports anticipate more than 280,000 visitors that day.
"We are pleased to welcome more than one million passengers at Chicago's airports as they make their way to visit family and friends for the Labor Day holiday," said Chicago Department of Aviation commissioner Rosemarie Andolino. "The CDA and all of our airport partners are ready to provide a safe, efficient and enjoyable experience for O'Hare and Midway travelers this weekend."
With morepeople than usual traveling, people should make sure to take extra safety precautions. Vacations and travel industry employees alike should make sure they allow extra travel time to reach their destinations.
