Children being subjected to intense bullying and the like have made headlines as of late. Those who suffer from a disability may find themselves being targeted even more by those who seek to put down others. The Challenge Air for Kids and Friends organizations aims to use aviation as a means to increase self-esteem and confidence in children with special needs. Nearly 30,000 physically challenged children have benefited from the program over the years. Recently, Lockheed Martin made a financial contribution to the organization. Lockheed Martin flight service program director Jim Derr says they donated funds in hopes of bringing a passion for aviation to youngsters. "We're proud to support an organization that opens up the world of aviation to so many kids," says Derr. "Our employees in Ft. Worth regularly donate their time to Challenge Air. We were happy to be able to contribute financially to the organization this year as well." TheNational Network for Childcare says that it's important to foster self-esteem in children. How a child feels about themselves will affect their behavior.
